Eight Native Florida Spiders

  • Jumping spiders. Usually between 5 and 10 millimeters big and black or brown in color, these spiders do not spin a web, but they will jump on their prey.
  • Crab spiders. Frequently hiding in flowers and shrubbery, this bright yellow spider has a body that is shaped like a crab.
  • Golden silk spider. These spiders may reach up to 40 millimeters long, create an orb-shaped web, and are either orange and black or dark brown in color.
  • Spiny orb-weaver. This easily identifiable species has a white abdomen like a crab shell that features black dots and large red spines.
  • Black and yellow Argiope spider. Featuring a silver body with yellow and black legs, this spider is easily spotted along the edge of woodlands.
  • Green lynx spider. A caterpillar predator, this spider is commonly located in shrubs and weeds, has a vivid, yellow-green body with red spots, and is about 12 millimeters long.
  • Wolf Spiders. These hunting spiders are usually black, gray, or brown, and they dig burrows or hide under debris.
  • Long-jawed orb-weavers. Often located near waterways, these spiders are orange-red in color and have very long front and rear legs.

When it comes to the safety of your family and guests, you don’t want to take any chances. If you think you have any of the above spiders infesting your property, it is important to contact a spider control professional as soon as possible.
